Terrorism is a reason to cancel under many travel insurance protection plans. Some plans require that you purchase your insurance within 14 – 21 days of your initial trip deposit or first payment for your trip to qualify for this coverage. Generally, the terrorist incident must occur in the insured’s city of departure or destination and you must be scheduled to arrive in that city within 30 days following the Terrorist Incident. You may cancel or interrupt your trip for this event. Always refer to the policy details to understand how that policy defines terrorism and what conditions may apply. Please note that with most policies, if there is a travel warning for the insured’s city of departure or destination prior to the effective date of the policy, terrorism would not be covered.
