Most travel insurance plans exclude pre-existing conditions, however this exclusion may be waived if certain conditions are met. For some travel policies, if you purchase coverage within an advantage period (usually 14 – 21 days of the initial trip deposit depending on the policy selected), you may be eligible for the Pre-Existing Conditions Exclusion Waiver. Some travel policies offer this waiver if coverage is purchased prior to making the final trip payment. This means that an injury occurring prior to the effective date of insurance and/or an illness occurring during the “look back” period for which treatment by a licensed physician has been sought, advised or for which symptoms exist would be covered. Policies may have other conditions which must be met to be eligible for the Pre-existing Conditions Exclusion Waiver such as being medically able to travel at the time insurance is purchased and insuring the full prepaid, non-refundable trip costs. Always refer to your policy certificate for full details to determine any conditions for coverage. International Medical Plans do not generally offer a waiver for pre-existing conditions.
