Can Donations Be Insured With Travel Insurance?

Travel plans that include volunteering and non-profit organizations may require a donation in order to participate.  Even if the donation is non-refundable and secures room and board, they cannot be included in the trip cost for travel insurance.  Trip cost should comprise the pre-paid, non-refundable costs from travel suppliers.  This can be the cost of flights, cruises, tours and lodging.  However, when the payment is a donation, with no direct goods or services provided, that cost should not be included.  Always refer to the certificate of insurance for details.
