It is increasingly common to find Brits securing travel insurance for their pets as well as themselves before going overseas, a new study suggests.
As a nation of animal lovers, a large number of Brits are keen to travel with any four-legged family members. Yet many holidaymakers secure animal cover before a trip, despite leaving their pets behind, according to home insurer Churchill.
Investing in travel insurance for a pet is a sensible policy at this time of year, a spokesperson for the firm has said, since the number of pet claims reportedly climbs during the summer months.
This is said to be because allergies such as hay fever are more widespread in the summer.
“Some breeds are more susceptible to certain medical conditions,” the Churchill spokesperson explained, expounding other common concerns, such as a pet going astray.
Travel insurance for pets covers the cost of any medical treatments, which can prove very costly overseas. Including such protection in a family policy can also prove good value for money.
